Grenouer play a cruel groovy death metal madness with sick vocals, the sound is good, the composition of the trax is inspired, even if I felt some influences of Pantera or Slayer from time to time. Anyway, if the band can catch that madness from their music on the stage, you can be sure it's a good reason for total headbanging! Finally, some words about the cover. It's a great full-coloured one, including a nice front, also photo and all the lyrics! If Grenouer did a good job on this recording, be sure Yury from Odium did a damn good job with the production. All in all, this is a must-have tape if you want to listen to some catchy death metal! Not to mention an A-HA cover "Take on Me" is included, unfortunately I don't like A-HA at all... Pour beaucoup de fans de HARD ROCK, il y eut un seul et unique groupe de Hard Sovietique; Gorky Park qui eut son heure de gloire a la fin des 80's. Aujourd'hui comme vous avez pu le constater l'aventure Metal continue, et c'est aujourd'hui GRENOUER qui fait parler de lui dans le registre different qu'est le Thrash Death (ou commeles musiciens le disent, du Groovy Death). Au fil des 15 titres que comporte leur album, force est de constater que GRENOUER n'a absolument rien a envier a ses collegues Occidentaux!
Tres proche d'un SLAYER en grande forme, GRENOUER possede un son extremement puissant. Faisant preuve d'une excellente technicite, les muscos maitrisent parfaitement leurs instruments. Le rythme et la lourdeur de leur Metal sont faille, c'est du travail propre, net et sans bavure. A noter que cet album contient quelques bonus la reprise de A-Ha, Take On Me assez surprenante. The odour O' Folly est donc la preuve flagrante que le Metal reste vivace dans les Pays de l'Est. GRENOUER a tout pour percer mais les distributeurs Americains ou Europeens seront ils interesses?.. ca c'est une autre question. (METAL INTEGRAL'zine, France)

Comme il n'existe pas de rubrique "K7" dans votre fanzine prefere, c'est dans la rubrique "demo" que se retrouve cet album. (A ce propos, il serait temps qu'on revoie nos classifications car entre les K7 album etc... on sait plus trop ou on en est!) Si je dis ca, c'est parce que ca me broute un peu de classer ce produit ici. Ces genies originaires de Russie en sont a leur 3eme album, toujours en format K7, et... toujours sans label! Pourtant ce groupe est sans doute l'un des meilleurs des pays de l'Est. Quand les gensauront compris ca...
A chaque album que GRENOUER nous envoie, c'est le meme sentiment de frustration qui revient: "Toujours pas signes? mais merde! que foutent les labels? A quoi on sert, alors?!?" Le precedent album, GRAVEHEAD, atait fabuleux. Celui- ci l'est tout autant, et en plus, le groupe ne s'est pas repete. Plus extreme que son predecesseur, mais tout aussi bien produit, ce nouvel opus hisse GRENOUER au rang des tres grands groupes: original, ultra puissant, archi technique et foutrement brutal. Des compos qui donnent un nouveau suoffle au Death Metal et qui depassent tres largement (aussi bien techniquement que musicallement) certains groupes qui font figure de stars depuis 15 ans et qui nous sortent toujours les memes concepts uses jusqu'a la corde (de basse, bien sur). Et puis vous en connaissez beacoup des groupes de death qui reprennent Take On Me, de A-Ha?
GRENOUER, eux, ils le font,et... ca groove severe! GRENOUER, c'est l'avenir du Death, c'est l'extreme de demain, c'est un tres, tres grand groupe qu'il faut absolument sortir de l'ombre! Итак, очередной продукт жизнедеятельности пермских злодеев убеждает своей крепостью. Руки у ребят растут явно не из задницы, а из мест, приспособленных для этого природой. Даже невооруженным ухом здесь можно услышать интересные, местами непредсказуемые маневры. Наверное, они просто повзрослели и теперь хотят реализовать свои возросшие амбиции в более сложных и завернутых аранжировках. Ну что ж, это их право, но мне кажется, что в данном случае профессионализм идет в ущерб брутальности. GRENOUER'ы пытаются пытаются все делать правильно и не особо перебарщивать. В меру агрессии, в меру тяжести, в меру скорости, всего в меру. Не больше, но и не меньше. Для любителей чего-нибудь эдакого - кавер A-Ha. В общем, при любом раскладе, альбом достоин внимания и уважения к проделанной работе. Думаю, найдется немало фэнов подобной музыки, так что послушай "The Odour O' Folly", и, возможно, ты окажешься одним из них. (Kruger, BUTCHER NWL, Украина)

Группа представляет продукт качественный, интересный и забойный. Впрочем, нечему удивляться после их "Gravehead". Музыка - смесь различных стилей, но основа - death metal, в которую вплетены разные мелодии, причем, они настолько цепляют, что кажется, что "щас пайду у пляс", да и само определение их стиля объясняет многое - death`n`roll ведь! Весело, забойно, угарно! Хочу отметить чумовейшие вещи - кавер A-ha "Take On Me" и "Mind Ruins". Кстати говоря, один знакомый, не слишком искушенный в подобной музыке, прослушав этот альбом, изрек: "Да, рок-музыкант - это, прежде всего, творческая личность, а уже потом пьяная волосатая сволочь…" - логично! People always say that the 3rd album is the most important album in a band's career, as it defines the band's own style in general. Well, for GRENOUER maybe it was their second one, i.e. "Gravehead", 'cause on the new album they combine a fairly CARCASS-motivated Death Metal stuff with lots of DISMEMBER-like guitar riffs and quite similar guitar sounding too. Regarding the overall sound production I have to say it was executed well again and sounds perfect. Music-wise these 9 songs have a groovy yet mid-paced basis, but as usual you can hear some grinding parts as well. I would say on this album the band experimented more as earlier and that's why it is not so outstanding as their "Gravehead" album. Anyway it's worth of interest. I can warmly advise this album to the ones who like the Swedish type of Death Metal and also to the ones whose are into unordinary things (as this album features an A-HA cover version). Так же как и на предыдущем альбоме здесь 9 песен, но на этот раз без интро и чистого вокала, видать эти моменты в предыдущей работе коллектива не понравились не мне одному, либо группа просто решила отказаться от них в процессе эволюции, которую кстати можно заметить/услышать невооружённым глазом/ухом, только не дайте одурачить себя фразами рекламного флаера: "New CD of Russian zonder command!" и "Heavy as tits of elephant"... После таких фраз только и ждёшь ультра брудала до ушного кровотечения, но нету его здесь, также как и мелодичности предыдущего альбома, разве только в весёлом кавере А-НA "Take Me On", непохожим на остальную часть диска, записанном в концертном варианте, точнее стилизованном под концертную версию, слишком уж гладко записанно (в России концерт так качественно сложно записать),да и бэк-вокал явно не концертный, ну ладно что я всё вокруг, да около... Ежели говорить в общем, то это по-прежнему смесь разных стилей на основе всё того же Death'a, правда компоненты на этот раз другие, например дэт-н-ролл, а в общем:партии ударных стали сложней, гитарные риффы - более groovy, а саунд - жёстче, что скорее всего связанно с переменной студии. Отрадно, что группа не топчется на месте, переигрывая от альбома к альбому одно и тоже, а экспериментирует. И на новом можно услышать не что иное, как death’n’roll. Мне понравилась эта запись, на которой помимо всего прочего имеется интересная cover-версия “Take on me” от A-ha. (H.N., G.O.D.'zine, Россия)

Russian bands are on the rise, and these deathsters are quite skilled. Very English sounding Death Metal, in terms like Carcass and Bolt Thrower, only a tad more melodic. They go for it with a decent production, and although songwise it bores me after 2 or 3 songs, you can hear that they have certain qualities. The problem is just to maintain the interest over time, and as from out of 9 tracks, only 2 I would say are interesting, one cover of A-Ha's "Take On Me" and one that is a rip-off of a old Bolt Thrower classic. The A-Ha song probably will even make me remember this album, as it's entertaining, yet unnescessary of course. So, what is to be said for a conclusion ? An album that for most metalheads most likely will be forgotten just as quickly as it appeared on the streets. (LEGION webzine, Беларусь)

I already reviewed their 2nd album "Gravehead" which I liked a lot. My only comment on that record was the horrible clean vocals. Fortunately they dropped these on the 3rd album. The speed of the music has also dropped on this new album. Opening song "Your Beast Tonight" starts with a sample that might be taken from the same movie as one of the samples on Carcass' "Necroticism"-album. This song (as well as the rest of the songs) shows GRENOUER as a death metal band with a certain groove and good hooks. Perhaps some rock'n death influences which sound quite cool. They remind me a bit of mid-paced Pungent Stench (the old stuff) as well, although GRENOUER play more technical stuff. Influences from Entombed in their rock'n death period are also to be heard (e.g., "Soulhunters"). "Take On Me" is of corpse a cover of the biggest hit of 80-ties band A-ha. It seems like the song was recorded live but they could just as well have added the audience noises, particularly because the sound is very good for a so-called live recording. Anyway, it's cool cover so what the fuck am I complaining about? Althoug some songs have some faster parts I miss some longer faster parts (like in the song "In-sect") that could have increased the variation a bit more. Best song on this album is the long "Mind Ruins" which is a highly variated song with cool riffing and various pace changes. Overall, it's clear that this band is quite experienced, knows how to handle their instruments and how to write some decent songs. Add to this a good heavy but clear production and you've got a above average death metal album. Although I prefer their 2nd album, one can't deny the quality of this record. If you're looking for another death metal band that tries to break the speed of light, then Grenouer is not the band you're looking for. But if you're looking for a cool death metal that has some excellent headbanging songs you should check 'em out. (Ricardo, VAMPIRE webzine, Holland)

И вот, наконец, вышел заветный для группы и долгожданный для слушателей "The Odour O' Folly". И снова группа постаралась, чтобы слушаться неузнаваемо - вместо логичного продолжения и развития линии второго альбома - ударились в совершенно другие стихии. Нет, панк рок или глэм они не заиграли, это по-прежнему brutal death, только теперь, например, от мелодизма Gravehead остался только присутствующий на диске кавер A-Ha (кто не в курсе - это древнейшая норвежская блэк-метал группа). А вот на место утерянной мелодии пришла во много раз увеличенная скорость, техничность и безумность. Т.е. их музыка теперь звучит гораздо агрессивней (с влиянием angry и даже industrial) и антимелодичней. Не скажу, что я лично в восторге от новых GRENOUER, промолчу, что что ожидал и надеялся услышать как раз таки усовершенствования стиля предыдущего альбома; даже не упомяну, что слушать новое творение группы более скучно. Промолчу я потому, что GRENOUER все-таки стали играть еще более профессионально, записан альбом гораздо более качественно, да и вообще не поворачивается язык особо ругать коллектив, который по уровню игры может заткнуть по пояс кучу знаменитых "забугорщиков", я уж молчу про русский UG. This is the third GRENOUER album, dated 2001. Frankly, I thought this band has evoluted into something death-n-roll'ish when I just got this album. At least such song-titles as "Your Beast Tonight", "Skittle Man", "Death Ought to Wait for Me" and others insinuated that. However, my supposition was completely wrong. "The Odour O'Folly" (a weird name for a Brutal Death Metal album, isn't it) comes as much more violent and enraged if compared to their second album "Gravehead", released in 1999 in MC format. The music as I have already mentioned, became even more obscure and destructive (possibly due to those groovy, mind-torturing riffs). All keyboards and acoustic passages are gone into a black abyss and something tells me they'll never return. The overall speed is average and it only contributes to the massive heaviness of this album. There's one more remarkable element here: "The Odour..." features a live cover of A-HA's "Take on Me". Don't know if it suits here or not. However, it is brilliantly performed in a reworked Death Metallish manner and shows how tight GRENOUER team is in performing live. A must! Questo и il terzo album dei Grenouer, un gruppo russo di cui so poco o niente, non conosco i loro lavori precedenti quindi non posso fare paragoni e non so cosa facessero in passato. In questo CD troviamo 8 canzoni di puro thrash/death di stampo svedese piщ una cover di "Take On Me" degli A-Ha (chi se li ricorda sti svedesi?). Le canzoni composte da loro onestamente non mi dicono molto, sono normali canzoni di genere, canoniche al massimo e senza spunti clamorosi. A me hanno ricordato i Diabolical e gli Hatesphere, sia come stile, sia nella capacitа di risultarmi piatti e monotoni. Come capacitа tecniche nulla da dire, se la cavano. Come capacitа compositive avrei qualcosa da ridire... certamente sanno scrivere canzoni di thrash/death metal, ma lo fanno in maniera scontata purtroppo. Non c'и un riff che non sappia di giа sentito, non c'и un passaggio in tutto l'album che sia originale. Sanno essere violenti dal punto di vista strumentale, il cantante ha un buon vocione a metа tra il growl e lo screaming... ma non vanno oltre purtroppo. Verso la fine invece arriva la cosa strana... ossia la cover degli A-Ha! A me fa troppo ridere, perchй il risultato и veramente assurdo: un mix ottenuto amalgamando la melodia ed i cori puliti dell'originale a delle parti piattissime di death metal... ste due parti non c'entrano una bella cippa tra di loro, fanno un contrasto assurdo, perт mi fa troppo ridere, hehehehe!
La confezione и discreta... la copertina non и il massimo della vita, ma almeno il resto del libretto и fatto bene. La produzione non и il massimo della vita, non и nй troppo fiacca nй potente come servirebbe. Il mixaggio и buono, ma sono i suoni di partenza ad avere poco spessore.
In conclusione consiglio questo album solamente ai maniaci dei gruppi tipo Diabolical ed Hatesphere, ossia quei gruppi che suonano questo genere in maniera formalmente ineccepibile ma senza dire un bel cazzo di nuovo. Occhio perт che la produzione di questo album и nettamente inferiore di quella degli altri gruppi citati. Solitamente questo tipo di gruppi non li sopporto, eppure questi Grenouer mi stanno simpatici, forse per via della cover degli A-Ha, forse perchй sono russi (lм и un bel casino suonare metal e questo assicura sulla loro passione)... fatto sta che li preferisco alla solita paccottiglia svedese e gli do un 7 solo per simpatia ed incoraggiamento, fossero stati un altro dei soliti gruppi iperpompati li avrei stroncati di cattiveria.
